We specialise in delivering safe and effective exercise programs, individualised to your needs.

What is An Exercise Physiologist?

An Accredited Exercise Physiologist is a qualified allied health professional who holds a Post-Graduate Degree (minimum 4 years at university). We specialise in delivering safe and effective exercise programs, individualised to your needs. We guide you to achieve your goals through an active approach to treatment, including mobility, stability, strength, movement and lifestyle changes.

Exercise Physiologists follow a strict criteria of professional development required to maintain our accreditation and ensure we stay up to date with new research and initiatives.

How are Accredited Exercise Physiologists Different To Other Exercise Professionals?

  • They are university qualified
  • They undertake strict accreditation requirements
  • They are eligible to register with Medicare Australia, the Department of Veterans’ Affairs and Work Cover and are recognised by most private health insurers
  • They can treat and work with all types of people; those who want to improve their health and wellbeing to those unfortunately suffering from a chronic illness.

Accredited Exercise Physiologists have extensive knowledge, skills and experience in clinical exercise delivery and their ability to provide rehabilitation for people with chronic disease and injury.

How Are Accredited Exercise Physiologists Different From Physiotherapists?

Back-in-Action Program

Our Holistic Back rehabilitation program runs numerous times over the year, created and run by Erica James AEP AES, this program now also includes Bradley James Buchanan (Clinical Hypnotherapist) to delve further into pain management and mindfulness practice. The length of this program changes, usually 6 weeks, with 12 week programs currently being designed.
The aim of this program is to assist individuals experiencing chronic back pain. This may range from those who would like to learn safe exercises to complete for their back pain and reduce their discomfort to those who are in severe pain and considering surgery. As with any surgery, you should complete exercises prior to the surgery for a quicker recovery and also in the hope that this may reduce your need for the surgery all together. Exercises following surgery are also vital to increase your movement, strength and independence once more. We are able to help in a variety of situations, please contact us to receive specific advice for you personally.

Women's Health Groups

Our exercise groups are run by Clinical Exercise Physiologists to ensure you complete your own individual program. These Women's only groups provide a supportive environment for open discussion and a comfortable exercise environment. These groups include women completing their own exercise rehabilitation program for a variety of conditions/life stages such as: pregnancy, menopause, PCOS, pelvic floor dysfunction, incontinence, osteoporosis, breast or ovarian cancer, or injury rehabilitation.

Workshops & Talks

We hold a selection of talks regularly over the year for topics such as Pre & Post Natal Exercise, Counseling & Nutrition, Kids Lunchbox Nutrition, Women's Health and Back pain management. My husband & I have been seeing Erica & she has increased his mobility (which helps his golf). I have attended a back injury specific coarse which was very helpful. We also see her for general fitness. The group are such a happy bunch always ready for a chat, laugh & advice . Erica esp. " loves it when you are doing your set exercises, if you sing!?) We are very happy & would certainly refer anyone to The Movement Therapy Group. Tks Erica for helping me to strengthen up prior to my surgery, it certainly made a diff.

Erica is my Exercise Physiologist, whom I trained with and met in Krav Maga a few years back, when I was managing a gym. Her infinite expertise and client care is beyond comparison and has helped me recover firstly through a car accident shoulder injury, and secondly through a road motorcycle spinal injury. I should probably avoid motor vehicles or roads in general. When in Erica's care I know exactly what exercise I'm doing, why I'm doing it, and it's always interesting & fun(for the most part haha, those bosu ball lunges!! Wow). She really is the best in her field, in my opinion and you'll be doing your friends a service by sharing her page to them.
